Photo Of The Day “Bay Bridge Sunset”

Have I said how much I love working for Commodore Events? Part of my job requires me to be on boats in the middle of the San Francisco Bay on beautiful May days with amazing sunsets falling behind the Bay Bridge. Life is rough. I am actually very happy I was able to get this photo as clear as it is, since the very choppy condition of the water made for an incredibly difficult shoot. This was probably the most challenging shoot of my career, but obviously, well worth it!

Photo Of The Day : The Empty Road Of Kerry”

Sorry for the lack of photo sharing. I have had a pretty rough couple of weeks. But I am back, and motivated to work!

There are miles upon miles of roads in the Ring of Kerry in the Irish country side where you will not see one other car, or really much of anything besides luscious foliage and beautiful coastline. This is one such stretch, right above the pounding surf hundreds of feet below. The Irish country side is amazing. The 2 days spent exploring it was about 28 days too few

Photo Of The Day: “Retirement Rainbow”

“Retirement Rainbow”

Friday March 18th started a span of at least 10 straight days of what is projected to be a pretty relentless, non stop storm. This was also the day I was hired to shoot a retirement party for a local police chief. When I arrived at the hotel ballroom, it was pouring. I unpack, start snapping photos in the bar/reception area, and all of a sudden, the room gets lit up with a nice warm light. I look outside, and it is……..sunny? Yes, sunny with a HUGE rainbow about a hundred yards from where I was standing.

I like to think it was Mother Nature‘s way of thanking Chief Jim Reis for his years of public service.

Congratulations Chief!

Photo Of The Day: “Jailed City…….with a Sailboat!”

“Jailed City…….with a Sailboat!”

This may look very similar to another photo I have buried here in my Landscape Photography Portfolio. It is called “Jailed City” You can see it here

http://www.mb-photography-sf.com/Landscapes/Landscape/11161093_TQL9m#805715204_UUPfT-A-LB

I took that a couple of years ago. Anyway, last week, I decided to revisit Tiburon, California to take some new photos. The water, clouds and the sky looked VERY alike the day I took “Jailed City” When I saw this sailboat coming from stage left, I decided to try to recreate that photo, but this time, with a nice, happy sailboat blocking Alcatraz Prison!

Photo Of The Day : “The Birds”

The Birds

One must think you might see alot of strange things on California Interstate 5 at 7 AM. Well, one would be right! At a rest stop somewhere in the middle of no where, the sky became warm with the rising sun, and then, out of nowhere THOUSANDS of birds came flying and squawking across the morning sky. It was an amazing site. I had NEVER seen this many birds in one flock in my life. It took over 1 minute for the entire flock to fly over our heads. It was truly awesome! So anyway, all those black spots in this photo isn’t “noise”, it’s thousands of birds!

I also took video of this awesome scene. You can see it here

Photo Of The Day: “The Wild West”

“The Wild West

Highway 15 is the last section of pavement that stood between me and Las Vegas, Nevada after driving from San Francisco, California. It is a rather desolate road, containing nothing more than the occasional abandon gas station. I saw this train track coming up and wanted to shoot it, but since the car was going about 80 miles per hour, I didn’t think I had a chance in hell of getting a sharp, non blurry shot, let alone good composition. But I did! Throw some single raw HDR processing and some Silver Efex in the mix, and it kind of looks like an old turn of the century photograph of the sparse, yet booming Wild West.

Oh and how was I able to take a clear, sharp shot at 80 mph? 1/8000 shutter speed, f/5.6, ISO 1000

Photo Of The Day: “The Ring Of Kerry River”

The Ring Of Kerry in Ireland is one of those amazing places you don’t really think ACTUALLY exists until you find yourself driving down to the thin, 2 lane highway with nothing around you except lush green vegetation and sheep. You come to the coastline and are just blown away by the rugged cliffs, pounding surf, and driving gale force winds. This is an amazing drive, and my only regret is that we did it too quick! If you ever find your self in Ireland, make sure to drive the Ring Of Kerry!

This HDR photograph was taking shortly after entering the Ring Of Kerry. I do not know what river that is. Anyone know?

Photo Of The Day: “The End Of Sausalito”

“The End Of Sausalito”

After almost falling to a certain death when I was blown by a high gust of wind, I was able to recompose, set up my tripod, and capture this 7 exposure HDR Photograph. I drove out to Sausalito, California on Tuesday, hoping that the big awesome storms clouds would roll in to create some dramatic skylines. Of course, this was not to be, so I had to play the cards I was dealt. Not to bad for no clouds, but I will be going back soon! Right at the edge of the foreground grass is a sheer cliff down to the ocean below. I guess this is why this trail is closed, and why I almost died for the art of photography. But it was not to be, as I am made of Tiger’s Blood and Adonis DNA

Photo Of The Day: “Valley”

“Valley”

HDR Photograph of a hiking trail leading down Mount Tamalpias towards Mill Valley, California (Marin County)

Another oldie. This is from what I call my “rookie season” of HDR photography. I believe this was taken in 2007. This was taken hiking up the Hoo Koo E Koo Trail from Kentfied, California up to Mount Tamalpias. I have been told quite often that it looks a Casper David Friedrich or a Claud Lorraine painting!
