Photo Of The Day : “The Tug Boat”

I am really curious to what the name of the barge is. I am thinking the language is Russian, but can’t be sure sure, since I cannot type those characters into my stupid American keyboard. Anyone out there have an idea? This was taken from the Commodore Events yacht while shooting the wedding of Angelina and Arthur Brooks!

Photo Of The Day “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

It has been a WHILE since I have posted a Photo Of The Day. I feel terrible, because I love to share my work. But unfortunately, since my real estate photography business for VHT.Com has been very busy, along with all the weddings and commercial work I do, I rarely have time to process my OWN personal photos. I chose this as a career, and have the greatest job in the world, but I can’t remember the last time I was able to go on a nice lonely hike, and take nature photos for myself. Sigh 😦

I think this photo represents what I am going through quite well. The bridge is where I want to be. Nice and calm, being able to set up my tripod, and just shoot the quiet wilderness. The rushing water represents my crazy work and social schedule. Non stop, and moving fast!

I promise to start posting more. It drives me crazy to not have people looking at new photography from me!

Photo Of The Day : “The Swamps Of Hawaii”

This scene struck me as one of those classic scenes you see in your head when you think of Hawaii. Yet another scene from the beautiful Waimea Falls in the North Shore of O’ahu, Hawaii.

Photo Of The Day : “The Hills, The Gate, The City”

The Hills, The Gate, The City”

Taking my friend and favorite photography student Jenny up to the Marin Headlands in Sausalito, California at sunset to teach her about lighting, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, didn’t give me much time to shoot my own photos, but I did manage to get this HDR photograph. I honestly think I have only taken one other photo of the Golden Gate Bridge from the vantage point. May be a pretty good place to shoot the sunrise!

Photo Of The Day : “The Pirates Of San Francisco”

So, at least I wasn’t the only person out on the bay on Super Bowl Sunday! Leaving Alameda, California on a Commodore Events Yacht (http://www.commodoreevents.com) I saw these old pirate boats coming into the channel from San Francisco Bay. I was amazed at their design, look, and beauty. Who they are, what they were doing, I will never know. But I hope to find out! If anyone knows who these boats may belong to, let me know

Photo Of The Day: “Badwater Sunset”

Badwater Basin, in Death Valley National Park, is the lowest elevation in North America at 282 feet below sea level. What is really crazy about this is that Badwater Basin is only 84.6 miles south east of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet. Just another reason I love this great state of California!

When I got to Badwater, I was looking for the amazing salt patterns that I’m sure you have seen pictures of before. I walked and walked, but couldn’t find the same pattern! I quickly realized that the rain that had fallen on Death Valley 2 weeks earlier had filled up the Basin enough to cover the really interesting salt patterns. So while I was bummed about not being able to capture the amazing patterns, I noticed that the still water created a perfect reflection of the mountain ranges in the the distance. With the sun setting rapidly, I was able to capture a number of good shots and angles.

Photo Of The Day “Bridge To The Abyss”

Happy New Year! Besides the holidays, one of my favorite parts of winters in Northern California is the torrential rains that bombard us for months on end. Besides the misty mountain hikes, the Marin County hills come alive with powerful, flowing waterfalls. One of the best in the area is Cataract Falls in Fairfax, CA. The trail to the top of the the falls is about 1.5 miles. The problem with a photographer is that this takes about 4 hours to walk, because there are countless angles to capture the falls.

This was a part of the falls I don’t remember seeing last year. I mean, I have seen this spot, but I never remember the fallen tree disappearing into the powerful water. It took me a while to get the right angle and focal length, but I think I got it in the end!

99.9% of the time, I would NEVER EVER post a photo taken with my iPhone. But I took this sunset shot from a boat in the middle of the bay in celebration of my buddies birthday and I thought it came out great. Another case of being in the right place at the right time!

Photo Of The Day: “December Sunset”

It was about 2:00 PM. I could see the clouds in the sky. They were looking perfect. I knew this would be a great sunset. And with rain on the forcast for the next couple of days, I knew I had to get out to Rodeo Beach in Sausalito. I finished some work and headed out. I thought I was going to be too late as I could see the sun falling fast during my drive. It turns out, it was the perfect time! There was about 4 or 5 other photographers there as well. One being an amazing photographer, who I admire very much! Check Gary Yost out at www.yostopia.com

Photo Of The Day: “Stinson Sunset”

I took this last week at Stinson Beach, CA. The birds somewhat stayed still through my bracketed 3 exposures. Not going to have too many of these summer sunsets left soon!
